TWI Industrial Member Report Summary 561/1996
R M Andrews
This report extends previous work on the stress concentrating effect of misalignment in welded joints. A correction term has been derived using beam theory for the stress raising effect of compressive loading in a joint with angular misalignment. This has been verified by large deflection finite element analysis. The finite element analyses have been extended to assess the stress concentration in configurations where the members are of unequal thickness or length.
