TWI Industrial Member Report Summary 303/1986
By W M Thomas
Background
Existing overlay techniques can seldom be used to apply a local dissimilar clad layer with little or negligible dilution in a single pass and at the same time provide good adhesion. However, this novel solid phase friction surfacing technique has led to increasing industrial interest and justified further studies into the deposition of corrosion resistant and hardfacing overlays. This report indicates the process conditions required for the deposition of a variety of materials including austenitic stainless steel to austenitic stainless steel, Inconel 625 to mild steel, Hastelloy CW-12M-1 to stainless steel, Stellite Grade 6 to stainless steel and an aluminium alloy to an aluminium alloy.
