TWI Industrial Member Report Summary 200/1982
By S B Jones, J H Pope and J Weston
Background
Optical sensing offers a powerful approach to the adaptive control of arc welding. Considerable development has been undertaken in this field, but only a small number of systems have been successfully used in production. The present report defines the requirements to be met by adaptive control systems in arc welding and examines the individual elements which make up optical sensing equipment. A review of representative developments in the field of optical sensing is presented, and the place of optical approaches in the wider field of adaptive control is discussed.
