TWI Industrial Member Report Summary 849/2006
By I Hadley, M Goldthorpe and L Wei
Background
The European FITNET consortium was formed in 2002 to prepare the basis of a European fitness-for-service (FFS) procedure to cover assessment of flaws in welded and non-welded metallic structures. The procedure is intended to cover all industry sectors and all relevant failure/damage modes (fracture, fatigue, creep and corrosion). As part of its contribution to the FITNET procedure, TWI has compiled a compendium of stress intensity factors (SIFs), (K-solutions), which will be incorporated into the procedure as Annex A. It was recognised that the compendium would also be of particular benefit to TWI Industrial Members, especially those who use BS 7910 and the CRACKWISE® defect assessment software.
Objectives
- To compile a summary of K-solutions for a range of cracked bodies already incorporated in current FFS procedures.
- To present the K-solutions for a range of cracked bodies in a consistent format, using FITNET terminology.
- To compare selected K-solutions graphically and to recommend, where possible, one or more solutions for use in the FITNET procedure.
