By D J Smith and J R Gordon
Background
The most common transducer for measuring the mouth opening or load line displacement in fracture mechanics test pieces is the twin cantilever clip gauge. This report describes an experimental study which was conducted to examine the performance of a number of clip gauges currently used in fracture mechanics testing. The results of thls study are presented and the implications to fracture mechanics test procedures are evaluated and discussed.
