TWI Industrial Member Report Summary 475/1993
C Ferlito
Scope
Laser cutting has become a significant industrially accepted production process.
In some cases, laser cut components need to be welded and high quality edge preparation is needed to produce high performance joints especially in materials such as stainless steel, nickel based alloys, titanium alloys and aluminium alloys.
This report is concerned with evaluating laser welding of laser cut edges using low pressure oxygen, and high pressure inert gas, for the following materials:
- Stainless steel AISI 316
- Inconel 600
- Aluminium alloy 2024
- Aluminium alloy 5754
- Titanium 6A14V
