Background
Study was carried out on wet welding electrodes for ferritic steel, the electrodes being based on a nominal 60%Ni-40%Mn composition derived from earlier unpublished work. Experimental electrodes were produced to overcome operating instability found in multipass welds, either by reducing the deposit manganese content or by lowering the melting point of the flux system. The electrodes were formulated progressively, following results obtained in wet welding trials mainly in the laboratory, but also at greater depths (21 and 58m).
