TWI Industrial Member Report Summary 302/1986
By G L White and P J Oakley
Background
Industrial ceramics are one group of new advanced materials which are being considered for wider exploitation in engineering and manufacturing industry. This results from the unique combination of properties exhibited by these materials, particularly under arduous service conditions. An industrial and literature survey has been undertaken on the subject of industrial ceramics with particular reference to joining. This report, resulting from the survey, describes the main industrial ceramics being considered for use by industry and their potential application areas, and reviews the reported work on joining both ceramic to ceramic and ceramic to metal.
