Background
The test methods which are used for the assessment of adhesively bonded joints have been reviewed with a view to evaluating their suitability for the production of data which can then be used to facilitate design methodology using adhesively bonded joints. One of the restrictions which affects the adoption of adhesives as an alternative joining technique is a doubt about their longevity. The evaluation of mechanical factors affecting this is therefore considered: creep rupture, fatigue and thermal degradation due to fatigue.
