TWI Industrial Member Report Summary 174/1982
By R L Jones
Background
A range of commercially available arc welding flux-cored wires has been evaluated to establish their welding characteristics and to compare their welding production performance with competitive processes. These wires can be categorised into groups which exhibit similar welding characteristics. Welding data have been established for the different wire types and can be used to aid their application. High metal deposition rates can be achieved with cored wires which can be utilised to reduce the welding arc time for various types of joint in comparison with the MMA process. The relative advantages depend on the wire type, joint details and welding position.
