Background
The BSI PD 6493:1991 procedures are widely used in industry for performing structural integrity assessments of welded components, in terms of fracture and fatigue. The PD 6493 procedures are currently being revised, under the auspices of the BSI WEE 37 Committee, with the revisions due to be published in 1996. Modifications are being made to the fatigue assessment procedures and significant revisions to the fracture assessment sections. In addition, the inclusion of creep assessment is being considered for high temperature applications, based on integration of the BSI PD 6539:1994 procedures.
