TWI Industrial Member Report Summary 366/1988
By I D Harris
Background
The report gives details of a recent study carried out to establish the parametric relationships determining cut quality in abrasive water jet (AWJ) cutting. The materials employed in this study were carbon-manganese steel and a structural aluminium alloy, both in the form of 12mm thick plate.
The report also presents the results of application studies involving the cutting of a wide range of material types in thicknesses from 2mm up to 230mm. The use of an abrasive water jet for other techniques such as groove preparation and crack removal is also discussed and illustrated.
