Background
An investigation has been made of the characteristics of electrode weave patterns that may be used in mechanised vertical fillet welding. Generalised welding procedures have been developed for single pass vertical fillet welds up to 8mm leg length and for two pass welds up to llmm leg length. There was found to be no advantage gained from any particular weave pattern with the reservation that it was possible to produce significantly flatter weld beads with a triangular weave pattern. It was found that the critical heave parameter was the weave width. The level of control required on the welding and weaving parameters for the production of a specific weld was also determined.
The results were developed to enable the selection of optimum weave parameters for fillet welds.
Weave patterns, parameters and commercially available equipments were discussed not only for vertical fillet welds but also for other joint configurations,welding positions and applications.
