Background
A review of the literature on narrow gap MIG welding has been undertaken to highlight the significance of the various welding parameters in relation to the production of geometrically and metallurgically sound welds, particularly in steel. The fusion characteristics of narrow gap welds have been particularly considered as this remains the major problem with this process. The advantages and limitations of the process have been discussed in relation to its suitability for production welding.
