TWI Industrial Member Report Summary 60/1978
By T R Gurney
Background
The Report contains a comparison of the rainflow, range counting, and level crossing counting methods, which can be used for analysing service stress spectra. The comparison was based on seven stress spectra which were generated by means of random numbers in a computer. On the basis of these results it appears that the rainflow method leads to values of Sigma n/N which are typically 33% greater than those calculated using the range count method, and the level crossing method gives values which are about 66% greater than the range count method.
