Three new materials engineers have joined our Materials Performance and Characterisation team at TWI to help meet the needs of our Members.
Dr Jackson Wo joined us in May 2024 as a Senior Materials Engineer having completed both Masters and PhD degrees at the University of Cambridge (Jesus College), where he read Chemical Engineering and Materials Science and Metallurgy, respectively. His doctoral research was co-sponsored by Rolls-Royce PLC and took place at the Rolls-Royce University Technology Centre, where he specialised in the high-temperature oxidation of new Ni-based superalloys for next-generation gas turbine engines. Jackson also has previous experience working as a Process Engineer in the upstream and downstream oil and gas sectors.
Dr Hossein Eskandari Sabzi joined TWI as a Materials Engineer in July 2024, having gained his PhD from Lancaster University where he studied alloy design for additive manufacturing. As well as studying at Lancaster, Hossein’s studies also saw him undertake research into metal additive manufacturing at the University of Southampton and at Globus Metal Powders before joining TWI.
Our third new expert is Materials Engineer, Ahamed Ameen who has been around TWI for some time as a PhD student from Coventry University and the National Structural Integrity Research Centre (NSIRC), based at TWI Cambridge. His studies are investigating wire-arc additive manufacturing with a focus on modifying the material properties and microstructure by varying the composition. Ahamed's is now finalising his PhD thesis, which is due for completion in early 2025. He came into his PhD studies following a Master’s degree in engineering materials science from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm, where he focused on phase thermodynamics.
Team Manager, Michael Dodge said, “We are delighted to welcome Ahamed, Jackson, and Hossein to the team. Their expertise will be invaluable as they take on key responsibilities in assisting our Industrial Members with materials characterisation, environmental testing, and failure analysis projects. These areas are central to our work at TWI, and I am confident that their contributions will strengthen our ability to deliver high-quality solutions for our clients."
We are pleased to be able to introduce Jackson, Hossein and Ahamed to our Members and look forward to putting their skills and knowledge to work on projects for the advancement of industry.
