The 6th progress meeting of the IIW Commission III Working Group B6 was held recently in Japan, marking another step towards the creation of an ISO standard for the friction stir welding (FSW) of steel.
FSW experts from around the world came together to discuss and work towards producing the draft standard for FSW of steel.
Good progress was made and draft documents are being prepared for the end of 2024.
This meeting was attended by TWI’s Friction Stir Welding Technical Manager, Jonathan Martin and kindly hosted by Kawasaki Heavy Industries’ Akashi Works.
The working group was given an excellent and informative tour of KHI’s motorcycle, robot and gas turbine assembly lines while at the facility.
