TWI is investing in the development of new facilities related to powder metallurgy hot isostatic pressing (PM HIP) for the manufacture of high value near net shape (NNS) industrial parts.
To this end, we are excited to announce the procurement of state-of-the-art equipment for powder outgassing operations.
Successful powder outgassing is one of the key steps in the PM HIP manufacturing route as it removes various gaseous species and moisture content in the powder filled canisters prior to HIP consolidation.
TWI has recently acquired a state of the art outgassing system equipped with residual gas analyser (RGA).
This unique combination enables active monitoring of the outgassing process such that very low vacuum levels are achieved and negligible moisture remains inside the powder filled canisters.
In addition to this new capability, TWI is also investing in the installation of a larger, heated outgassing system. This is expected to be installed before the end of 2023.
All of these activities have been funded under the TWI’s Exploratory Programme.
