TWI Technical Literature Review 30147
By Rob Shaw and Geoff Melton
Background
In-process monitoring of arc welding allows the detection of defects or process instability independent of an operator and much earlier in the manufacture of components than traditional non-destructive examination, which can reduce scrap wastage and repair time. The ability to have machine systems perform this monitoring and take corrective action is still out of reach and needs further improvement. This review examines the current technical progress.
