Background
Plastic piping systems are one of the most critical applications of plastic materials alongside medical and aerospace. The applications of high density polyethylene (HDPE) piping systems are varied, and include gas, water, drainage and sewage transportation. Due to its non-metallic nature, HDPE is extremely resistant to a wide range of industrial waters and chemicals and also offers an advantage in long-term system life and manufacturing costs compared with metals and concrete. Since HDPE is completely inert and is a tasteless and odourless material, it remains neutral to all transported fluids and is widely used for transporting liquids made for human consumption. Also, because of their mirror-smooth inside surface, HDPE pipes have minimum flow head loss and there is also no build-up of inside deposits, a particular advantage for sewerage systems
