We are pleased to announce that the TWI collaborative ‘EMPHASIZING’ project has been shortlisted for two awards at the Composites UK Trade Association Industry Awards 2024.
The Innovate UK-funded project saw TWI work with fellow project partners Longworth, Gen2plank Limited, EMS-CHEMIE (UK) LTD, Ford Technologies Limited, Gestamp, and the Brunel Composites Centre (Brunel University London) to develop ‘glassene,’ reclaimed and resized glass fibre with a low carbon price point, high performance and a low LCA.
About EMPHASIZING
The EMPHASIZING Project was created to investigate the circularity of glass fibre composite materials, which are being used across a wide range of different industry sectors. Their excellent properties and lightweight performance has led to 2.5 million tonnes of these composite materials being used each year in the renewable energy sector alone. However, much of this material was going to landfill or being incinerated after use.
EMPHASIZING worked to introduce low-cost, high-quality and high yield, reclaimed fibres back into the manufacturing chain along with a viable value chain to exploit the resulting recyclates for subsequent lifecycles.
You can find out more about this project on the dedicated EMPHASIZING project website.
