Technology Showcase: FSW Tank Manufacture

TWI, in collaboration with Friction Stir Welding (FSW) equipment manufacturer Stirweld, are holding a free-to-attend Technology Showcase titled 'FSW Tank Manufacture’ at the TWI headquarters in Cambridge, UK.

Stirweld is a company specialising in FSW, with the goal of democratising access to this technology. Further details are available at https://stirweld.com/

Overview

During the morning session, the invited speakers will discuss the latest advances and developments in FSW equipment and its application to the manufacture of aluminium storage tanks and the associated benefits. The presentations will include the development work being performed under the Innovate UK/ Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) UK public-funded MASTER (Metallic Aerospace Structures Technologies for Eco-social Returns) project.

The afternoon session will comprise a mix of live demonstrations and videos of FSW tank welding. This free-to-attend event will provide a valuable insight into this challenging application and the lessons learnt from the development work performed.

Who should attend?

  • Design engineers
  • Manufacturers from the Aerospace sector
  • Manufactures from other sectors producing storage tanks
  • FSW subcontractors
  • Aluminium suppliers
