A recording of a recent webinar held by TWI and the Non-Metallic Innovation Centre (NIC) is now available to view.
The event, ‘𝐆𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐭 𝐑𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 – 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐄𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐚 𝐆𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐀𝐝𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐁𝐨𝐧𝐝,’ took place on 30 July 2024 with around 100 people registering on the day from 31 different countries.
The webinar was hosted by Project Manager for NIC and Research Projects, Sadik Omairey, who also managed the post-talk Q&A session.
TWI’s Consultant in Advanced Composites and Adhesives, Dr Ewen Kellar presented during the online event, speaking on the importance of surface pre-treatment in ensuring a good adhesive bond.
The webinar explored the many options available for effective pre-treatment, the consequences of not getting it right, and the outcomes of some work that TWI has been involved with, where the goal was to create the perfect invisible defect. The ability to produce such defects in a controlled and stable way is an important first step towards developing NDT capabilities to detect them.
