Introducing Associate Director Rory Lipington

Wed, 05 June, 2024

We are pleased to announce our new Associate Director for Key Accounts and Sectors, Rory Lipington.

With 30 years’ experience in industry, Rory brings his business leadership and strategic skills to TWI, having forged a career in capital equipment in-service support and asset management.

The last 20 years have seen Rory operating at a senior level, including directorial positions in operations, sales, and as a Managing Director at Allan Webb Ltd. During his time at Allan Webb Ltd, who provide Supportability Services to the UK Ministry of Defence and industry, the company grew significantly and expanded into areas including consultancy and project management, asset management, software development and data analytics.

Rory joined a small start-up business, Concrete Canvas Ltd, in 2009. It was here as business development manager that he became increasingly involved in developing material applications and construction methods, including experimenting with geomembrane welding.

In 2012, Rory returned to Allan Webb, where he introduced the SmartDitch HDPE construction product to the UK as part of Allan Webb’s strategy to diversify into projects such as HS2. The product was adopted by Network Rail, with the introduction of thermoplastic welding to create custom solutions.

Rory explained that he was enthused by the wide scope of work undertaken by TWI across multiple industry sectors and applications, as well as by the opportunity to work alongside our experts using a range of technologies.

His role involves looking after key TWI Industrial Members with a focus on business development and matching the needs of our customers with the capabilities available at TWI.

Outside of work, Rory has a busy family life with his wife, young children and two pugs who live with him in Gloucester. As well as being a grassroots football coach to his son’s U13 team, he is also sometimes persuaded to don the mantle of ‘dance dad’ for his daughter.

He also recently fulfilled a lifelong dream of visiting the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, where he managed to watch a SpaceX launch with his family.

Speaking on his new role at TWI, Rory said, “I am looking forward to bringing my experience to TWI and working with the fantastic team and facilities to help our clients in the UK and abroad.”
