We are pleased to announce that Dr Matthew Doré has been appointed to the role of Technology Fellow, Structural Integrity of Metallic Materials.
Having joined TWI in 2000, Matthew has been managing our Fatigue and Fracture Integrity Management Section for the last seven years. His expertise has led him to contribute to over 150 projects across a range of different industry sectors during his time at TWI.
Matthew’s work has included developing procedures to improve the fatigue life or structures, improving the understanding of fatigue crack growth acceleration mechanisms under variable amplitude loading, and in aiding the development of the CrackFirst™ sensor (laboratory/field validation and attachment process). He has also been entrusted with projects of national importance to UK infrastructure, such as solving issues with the 1km long Boston Manor Viaduct that carries the M4 motorway from Heathrow into Central London.
Matthew serves on internationally recognised bodies, including as a Main Committee Member of BSI WEE/37 (BS 7910), as the UK National Delegate on the International Institute of Welding (IIW) Commission XIII, and as Chair of the bodies for BSI WEE/37-3 (Fatigue) and BSI WEE/37-9 (BS 7608).
His expertise has allowed Matthew to Chair several international conferences and deliver keynote presentations and workshops around the world.
Matthew has supervised and supported 13 PhD students during his time at TWI and has had over 20 scientific articles published, including peer-reviewed journal publications in the areas of fatigue design, fracture mechanics, and additive manufacturing.
We would like to congratulate Matthew on his appointment to Technology Fellow, where he joins other leading authorities in their technical fields who have made a significant impact through their technical excellence, expertise and knowledge transfer, while staying committed to the development and coaching of colleagues.
