Josh Barras
UKRI Future Leaders Fellow and Principal Project Leader - Laser Additive Manufacturing
Josh is a UKRI Future Leaders Fellow and Principal Engineer working within the Laser Additive Manufacturing Section at TWI. Josh leads the newly formed Extreme High-Speed Laser Application Team. He is a Chartered Engineer through Membership of The Welding Institute, with over 9 years of laser cladding/LB-DED experience.
Jhonattan Gutjahr
Team Manager
Jhonattan is the Team Manager in the Extreme High-speed Laser Application (EHLA) Team within the Laser Additive Manufacturing Section. He has 10 years’ experience of laser processes, including machine design and integration, processing, and characterisation. He is set to obtain his doctorate this year with a focus on LB-DED and additive manufacturing from the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina in Brazil, and has a M.Sc in Mechanical Engineering.
Dr Charlotte Blake
Senior Defence Sector Manager
Dr Charlotte Blake is the Senior Defence Sector Manager for Aerospace clients at TWI as well as the Equipment, Consumables and Materials sector. With a technical background in Additive Manufacturing, Charlotte has worked across Powder Bed Fusion, Powder Directed Energy Deposition, and EHLA technologies. After leading management of the Manufacturing Metrology Team at the University of Nottingham and the Midlands Centre for Data-Driven Metrology, Charlotte returned to TWI in 2022 to join the Membership team and focus on ensuring maximum benefit for new and existing members of TWI in her sectors. Charlotte is passionate about STEM outreach and has contributed to many programs in the past, including Pint of Science, Soapbox Science and People Like Me.
Tomaso Maccio
Project Leader
Tomaso joined TWI Yorkshire in March 2012 as a lasers technician after completing his national diploma in mechanical engineering at Rotherham College of arts and technologies. Throughout his career at TWI Tomaso progressed to Laboratory Team Leader in the Yorkshire office working across Additive Manufacturing and Friction Stir equipment. Tomaso was promoted to Project Leader in 2021 and have delivered projects across PBF, DED and EHLA.
Sam Ward
Senior Technician
Sam Ward serves as a senior technician in the Laser additive manufacturing (LAM) section within the advanced manufacturing technology (AMT) group. He specializes in powder bed fusion and direct energy deposition technologies. As a key member of the Additive Manufacturing team, his contributions have advanced the organization's capabilities in 3D printing. Sam is valued for his collaborative skills and problem-solving abilities, making him an asset to multidisciplinary project teams. His work has played a pivotal role in TWI's standing in the additive manufacturing field, establishing him as a respected figure in the industry.
