Lion Engineering Webinar on Welding Distortion
Time: 3pm
Distortion is an inevitable result of arc welding, which causes problems for designers, fabricators and operators across a range of industries. This presentation will briefly introduce the origins of distortion, followed by an overview of various mitigation strategies, covering prevention by weld design, process control, modelling and prediction, and corrective methods. A combination of these techniques may be used particularly where there are stringent dimensional tolerance requirements. The webinar will finish by discussing industry examples and introduce some of the latest advancements in distortion mitigation in arc welding and arc-based additive manufacturing.
Speakers
Cui Er Seow
Project Leader, Welding Engineer – Arc processes and Welding Engineering
TWI
Cui joined TWI in March 2020 as a welding engineer in the Arc processes and Welding Engineering (AWE) section. Prior to TWI, she completed her PhD research on arc-based additive manufacturing of nickel-based superalloys, investigating the effects of heat treatments on its microstructure and mechanical properties. During her time at TWI she has been involved with a variety of projects, including projects part of the Core Research Programme such as arc-based additive manufacturing, European funded projects such as WeldGalaxy, and industrial member funded projects involving welding engineering support for repair of structures, as well as TWI’s software product development.
