Services
Test Engineering
TEC Eurolab is able to support companies in the development of customized Test Engineering activities to verify and test the operational functionality of their components.Industrial sectors such as Automotive, Aerospace, Oil and Gas up to Biomedical have the need to simulate the real operating and functional conditions of the component. The test engineering center designs, manufactures prototypes and implements testing solutions based on modular test benches to meet the customers’ operational needs. Through the selection of the right sensors, it is possible to acquire and process all the data collected during the test phases, and use them after the experimental activities, to verify the reliability of the analyzed component or to evaluate possible design changes.
Industrial Computed Tomography
Industrial computed tomography (CT X-Ray scan) allows to acquire a three-dimensional image of the analyzed component. Thus, it allows to virtually navigate any section and analyze the internal details with reference to both defects and dimensional characteristics. These techniques can be applied on components of large size, thickness and high density, providing a fundamental support in quality control to many companies involved in the manufacturing industry.
Examples of standard analysis are Defects analysis, CAD Comparison Analysis, Wall Thickness Analysis, Reverse Engineering, Composite Analysis, First Article inspection and Failure Analysis.
The DIONDO D7 3.5-6.0 MeV system used is unique in its kind, first in Italy and one of the few available in Europe.TEC Eurolab is a reference point on these techniques, with qualified personnel of Level II and III for EN 9712 / EN 4179 / NAS 410.
Fatigue Resistance Studies of Metal Obtained by AM
The application of the Additive technology to the metal industry provides significant structural and thermo-fluid-dynamic advantages due to the increase of design freedom and the ability to give complex shapes to the manufactured components. The fatigue strength of additive material is highly susceptible to variation due to the presence of defects. Most of the causes of in-use component failure are related to fatigue phenomena. Therefore, to ensure reliable results, design optimization and the use of special materials requires a statistical study of the observed fatigue phenomena, with the addition of material analysis tests.
The fatigue strength of a material is described by means of the Wohler stress-cycle curves that varies according to an anisotropic material. It is possible to perform a statistical correction by evaluating the number of samples used and confidence type t-Student and by Weibull coefficients and confidence. The tests can show the micro-imperfections of the material that negatively affect the component.
Failure Analysis
Defects and failures in industrial components and products can occur at various stages of the life cycle, from design and prototyping, to primary/secondary processing and assembly, up to the operational phase.
TEC Eurolab supports its customers from the collection of information to the definition of the cause of failure thanks to the failure analysis, which allows to identify the mechanism of failure, locate its origins and identify the criticalities in the following ways:
- collection of preliminary information
- inspection and sampling
- photographic documentation of the state
- non-destructive tests
- mechanical tests
- verification of the material (chemical analysis and mechanical characteristics)
- macrographic analysis (microstructure control)
- Fractographic analysis (targeted control on both fractographic and microstructural origin)
