This laboratory focuses on the development of novel hybrid materials and functional coatings. The design and synthesis of materials and solvents is undertaken together with their characterisation. The core capabilities of the team include expertise in sol-gel, nanomaterials, formulation, additive selection and solvent technology.
Materials and surfaces are constantly exposed to harsh environments (such as humidity, erosion and temperature) that can severely affect and damage the performance of the materials and coatings in operation with time. TWI offers a customised approach to produce new materials/surfaces able to combine durability with performance to support many industries, including renewable energy, construction, medical and aerospace.
