TWI’s services and support to the nuclear industry have been featured in three separate industry publications.
We have been involved in over 800 separate nuclear and fusion industry projects, covering everything from new builds and life extension to waste disposal and decommissioning, supporting many of the biggest names in the nuclear and fusion sectors.
Because we are both independent and impartial, we are able to provide expert witness and peer review services for regulatory body submissions, failure investigations, and safety case reviews.
TWI services and innovation for the nuclear and fusion industries were featured in the November-December, 2024, issue of ‘Nuclear Future,’ the professional journal of The Nuclear Institute.
The inside back cover listed services including welding engineering, adhesive and mechanical bonding, spraying and coatings support, testing and inspection, materials selection, manufacturing and production support, product and process development, fitness-for-service, asset modelling and management, life-cycle extension, risk analysis, and failure investigation.
We were also featured in the January-February issue of Nuclear Future, where page 11 of the magazine honed in on our services in non-destructive testing (NDT) development and qualification.
As world-leaders in the development of advanced inspection solutions, the item showed how we can assist with challenging materials, new welding processes, corrosion mapping, ultrasonic inspection in lieu of radiography, and the assessment of inspection procedures, equipment and personnel to comply with nuclear regulatory bodies and standards. We can also perform NDT of complex geometrical structures help with the development of inspection techniques for challenging and hazardous environments.
An article was also published in Engineering magazine’s special edition dedicated to ‘Nuclear Technology’ in November, 2024, which drew on our knowledge and experience in the nuclear and fusion sectors.
The article, ‘Reaching Net Zero through Nuclear and Fusion,’ explored nuclear power is a key player in the fight against climate change and how new innovations in reactor designs and modular manufacturing are reducing the costs associated with nuclear power plants. We compared nuclear power with other clean energies but also took note of existing challenges in the nuclear sector. The article drew to a close with a glimpse at the development of fusion technologies, which has brought together over $7.1 billion of public and private funding and now expects to see the first fusion electricity being delivered to the grid by 2035.

TWI Technology Fellows' Day
We are holding an in-person seminar at our headquarters near Cambridge 15 May 2025. This is the first event its type ever to be held by TWI, bringing together the world-leading expertise of our Technology Fellows to focus on challenges and solutions for nuclear and fusion with crossover to other industries.
