Meet Our New Friction Joining Team Engineer

Fri, 25 April, 2025

We are pleased to welcome Dr Rosie Mellor to TWI as a Project Engineer in the Friction Welding and Processing team.

Rosie brings a strong background in metallurgical principles and metallic alloy design, having completed her PhD in Materials Science at the University of Cambridge in 2023. Funded by Rolls-Royce plc, her research involved the development of novel lightweight titanium-iron based alloys for applications in aerospace and beyond.

Rosie’s previous role as a metallurgist at a start-up company in Norway has seen her lead R&D projects to optimise a range of novel manufacturing methods for both metallic and non-metallic materials, as well as gaining experience in industrial scale-up through supporting the transition from lab to pilot-scale factory manufacturing.

Eager to broaden her knowledge of larger-scale manufacturing techniques, Rosie is keen to apply her metallurgical expertise to our cutting-edge friction welding technologies.

Outside of engineering, Rosie enjoys playing football and is a passionate advocate for the NUS' Green Impact initiative, having been certified ‘carbon literate’ since 2021, and volunteering as a course trainer.

We’re excited to have Rosie on board!
