Haris Completes ICorr Young Engineer Programme

Mon, 10 February, 2025

Muhammad Haris, Brunel University of London PhD student and a talented emerging expert in Materials & corrosion science, has successfully completed the Institute of Corrosion's Young Engineer Programme, a comprehensive initiative designed for individuals in the early stages of their careers.

The programme ran from January to November 2024 and featured a combination of in-person and online sessions, all centred in the heart of London.

The Young Engineer Programme attracted participants interested in expanding their knowledge and experience in the corrosion industry.

This year’s curriculum included critical topics such as Fundamentals of Corrosion, Materials Selection and Integrity Management, Plant Chemistry, Welding, Coatings and Linings, Corrosion Under Insulation, Cathodic Protection, and Presenting Case Studies.

A highlight of the programme involved dividing participants into teams to tackle real-world case studies.

Each team was mentored by one of the UK's leading corrosion experts, who provided valuable guidance in problem-solving and innovative thinking.

Haris, whose PhD research is taking place at TWI, brings a wealth of experience to the field. Prior to joining the National Structural Integrity Research Centre (NSIRC), he worked at the Centre of Corrosion Research at University Technology PETRONAS in Malaysia, focusing on the development of nanocontainer-based anticorrosive coatings for the oil and gas industry.

His innovative work included the use of halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) to enhance protective coatings.

Haris holds a Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering from NED University of Engineering and Technology in Pakistan.

He is also an active member of several professional organizations, including the Energy Institute, BWSCC, and the Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP), formerly known as NACE.

Haris's completion of the Young Engineer Programme positions him as a knowledgeable leader in the field of corrosion, ready to contribute to advancing technology and practices that safeguard materials and structures across industries.
