TWI Industrial Member companies have access to a range of benefits, including free Associate Memberships (AWeldI) of The Welding Institute.
The Welding Institute is the leading engineering institution supporting welding and joining professionals. Where TWI Ltd works to support Member organisations, The Institute works to support individual professionals with Continuing Professional Development in welding, joining and allied technologies.
Foundations
Originally founded in 1923 as ‘The Institution of Welding Engineers,’ the Institution held the aim to ‘advance and develop the science and practice of welding.’ This originally included undertaking research but, in 1946, professional institutions were debarred from also acting as research institutions, leading to the formation of the British Welding Research Association (BWRA) as a separate entity to the (now renamed) Institute of Welding. Over time the BWRA became today’s TWI Ltd and The Institute of Welding became today’s The Welding Institute. Despite this enforced split, the two entities have remained close over the ensuing decades.
Modern-day Members of The Welding Institute are supported in developing their skills and knowledge via Continuing Professional Development (CPD). Not only does this ensure that organisations can be secure in the expertise of their welding professionals, but also allows those individuals to prove their experience, skills and knowledge through Engineering Council registration.
Benefits
Professional Membership of The Welding Institute confers a range of benefits to assist those engaged in activities related to welding practice, welding technology, metals and non-metals, other joining technologies, surface treatments, inspection, non-destructive testing, integrity assessment and integrity management across all industries, from micro-electronics to heavy industry.
