In March 2021, the ODIN project set out to redefine the current status of hospitals by turning them into smart clinical environments through the integration of technologies like the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), robotics and data analytics. TWI Hellas has been part of a consortium of 21 members, namely Medtronic, Centre for Research and Technology Hellas, Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas, University of Warwick, Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies, Robotnik Automatic SLL, My Sphera SL, Philips Electronics Nederlands, Universidad Politecnica de Madrid, Inetum, Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma, Universitair Medisch Centrum Utrecht, Servicio Madrileño de Salud, Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Amiens Picardie University Hospital, Medical University of Lodz, Minds and Sparks GMBH, UDG Alliance, Università degli Studi Firenze and Servicio Andaluz de Salud, from various European countries, that worked hard to develop solutions focused on patient monitoring and diagnosis, resource management and emergency response.
Throughout its duration, the project has organised nine instalments of the ODIN Project 360º Webinar Series, which included leading experts from various scientific and technological fields. Additionally, the consortium has attended multiple conferences and events as well as authored publications relevant to the project’s work. Last but not least, the ODIN Open Call, focusing on two specific challenges, received 50 proposals, with applicants from 14 countries, and helped the project grow its ecosystem with new collaborators and the chance to address real-life issues with the latest technological innovations.
TWI Hellas is proud to have contributed to the ODIN platform; the Fleet Management System (FMS). As explained by Lampis Papakostas, TWI Hellas’ Robotics Engineer leading the ODIN developments, “Throughout the project, we have been dedicated to developing an FMS that enables centralised control and orchestration throughout the operation of multiple robotic platforms within a hospital environment, optimising their deployment and allocation for efficient logistics management. Our primary objective is to maximise the utilisation of robotic resources and ensure their seamless integration into hospital workflows.”
Work on the ODIN project will conclude in early 2025. Therefore, on 29 November 2024 the consortium will celebrate this occasion with a final event on the future of healthcare delivery titled ‘Unravel the future of healthcare with ODIN!’, to be held in-person in Madrid, Spain as well as online for virtual attendees. During the event, project partners will present how the ODIN technologies were implemented, addressing the five major challenges of logistics, patient care, support for both diagnosis and treatment, and disaster preparedness. The ODIN roundtable will consist of experts from the healthcare ecosystem who will discuss the vision for the hospital of the future, and provide insights into the sustainability strategy envisaged as a result of the project’s impact.
Please note that all are welcome to attend the ODIN webinar online. However, the number of in person slots is limited, therefore, be sure to register as soon as possible to book your place. The event will start at 10:00 AM CET and will be hosted at Madrid Innovation Hub (Calle María de Portugal, 11. 28050, Madrid).
