As part of the celebrations for the 100th anniversary of The Welding Institute, we have been finding out about the careers and experiences of our Professional Members.
This week we hear from Ibrahim Nuruddin Katsina CEng SenMWeldI who, having achieved a Masters in Welding Engineering and a PhD in oil and gas pipeline welding and infrastructure (both from Cranfield University), now works as a deputy manager of mechanical piping and pipelines at (NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company) NGIC, NNPC Ltd.
Ibrahim told us about his role and responsibilities before revealing how working at his uncle’s company, ITEC Nigeria Ltd, during the summers inspired him to become an engineer. From here, Ibrahim reveals how he managed to set up his own company with “little to no capital” as well as some of the challenges he has overcome during his career.
We also hear about Ibrahim’s interactions with The Welding Institute and becoming a Chartered Engineer. Revealing why he feels professional membership is important, he also spoke on volunteering with The Institute and how this helped his career as well as offering personal satisfaction from being able to share his knowledge and inspire the next generation.
