A research paper authored by experts from TWI has won an award at the International Conference on Ocean, Offshore, and Arctic Engineering (OMAE).
The paper, ‘Optimising Fracture Assessment of Welded Structures using BS 7910, R6 and FEA),’ was presented at a conference in Glasgow last year and has now won the award for best paper in the OMAE’s Materials Symposium.
The paper shows how the accuracy of assessment increases as the more advanced assessment methods are employed and that, by leveraging high quality information on the material properties and detailed nonlinear finite element analysis, significant levels of conservatism can be removed.
The authors, Isabel Hadley and Tyler London will now receive an award at a virtual awards session on 6 August 2020.
The authors have also been invited to have the paper published in the Journal of OMAE.
This achievement demonstrates TWI’s continued leadership and expertise in structural integrity and fracture mechanics, and we would like to congratulate Isabel and Tyler for their award.
