Representatives from consortium member companies and organisations, the Brunel Innovation Centre (BIC): a strategic partnership between Brunel University of London and TWI, The Power Hub, Tricore Technical Services and V-LAB, held an in person project meeting recently at TWI’s headquarters in Cambridge, UK.
With less than two months to go before SafeXtend is due to finish, the consortium had a full day’s Agenda lined up, with discussions ranging from technical achievements to date and the challenges still to address, through to dissemination and communication activities, and the potential for post-project commercialisation.
SafeXtend is an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered, virtual reality (VR) training solution that provides an immersive, interactive learning environment for construction industry personnel, through which they can engage in realistic scenarios that include risk assessment, and health and safety protocols.
A key benefit of the in person project meeting was the opportunity for those attending to try out the latest version of the SafeXtend platform, using the VR headsets brought along by colleagues from Tricore for the occasion. This provided valuable feedback on the current SafeXtend system version, including the quality and relevance of the construction site visuals, the clearness of the voice-over and the overall experience for future trainees using the platform.

The day also included the filming of four ‘Meet the Expert’ videos, spotlighting the contributions of BIC, The Power Hub, Tricore and V-LAB to the project, which will be made available to view over the next few weeks.
