The CSWIP Senior Welding Inspector course is intended for experienced welding inspectors and quality control staff, especially those aiming to take the CSWIP Senior Welding Inspector examination. You must be familiar with the subjects covered in the CSWIP Welding Inspector course before enrolling. Home preparation is also recommended due to the extensive range of topics covered.

As an examination candidate, you are responsible for either holding a CSWIP Welding Inspector certification or attending the CSWIP Welding Inspector course and examination (WIS5E) prior to this course/examination.

  • Arc energy and heat input

With 16 different subjects, prior knowledge and preparation are crucial. It's advised to review materials from the CSWIP Welding Inspector course and consider reading welding handbooks such as:

  • Jeffus' "Welding: Principles and Applications"
  • A.C. Davies' "The Science and Practice of Welding" & "The Practice of Welding"
  • AWS Welding Handbook Volumes One and Two

Additional Information

 Enrolling in this course does not guarantee a reservation for the examination. All courses may be followed by a CSWIP Welding Inspector examination for candidates with the appropriate experience as specified in CSWIP document WI-6-92, available for download from the CSWIP website.

While this course covers most of the examination syllabus, it does not include training in the interpretation of radiographs and associated theory.

Candidates can purchase TWI’s online CSWIP Senior Welding Inspector Pre-Learning package to prepare for the course.

 Entry Requirements

To join this course, you must meet one of the following criteria:

      • Be a Certified Welding Inspector for at least 2 years, with job responsibilities listed in Clauses 1.2.1, 1.2.2, and 1.2.3 of CSWIP document WI-6-92.
      • Have 5 years of verified experience related to the duties and responsibilities listed in Clause 1.2.3 of CSWIP document WI-6-92.
      • All candidates must hold a valid CSWIP Welding Inspector certificate and comply with Clause 1.3.4 of document WI-6-92, available at http://www.cswip.com.
