Our robotic systems technology with ultrasonic non-destructive testing (NDT) capabilities is designed for the tank inspection market.
The robotic platform is represented as a small robotic crawler that operates in the tank environment using active sonar. An array of ultrasound probes installed on the platform records measurements of the floor plate thickness while the navigation system records the position within the tank. The smart system empowered by artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms detects corrosion and flaws in the tank’s steel panels. As the machines are intrinsically safe and ATEX compliant, their pressurised and sealed design guarantees safe inspection in explosive and flammable environments with no leaks and sparks.
The robot’s compact size allows entry via a 450 mm access point in liquid storage tanks. The technology is remotely controlled, and equipped with tethered communications and an umbilical cable. The robot remains submerged during inspection and data is passed back to the operator via the integrated umbilical. The crawler can drive over heavy sludge surfaces, whilst being able to navigate around pipework and other tank furniture present on its floor.
The technology’s ease of use and unique movement capabilities make it ideally suited to the inspection of oil, transportation, water storage and ship-borne fuel tanks.
