Creating new goals can be a great way to help you get through difficult times. It could be something as innocent as trying a new recipe, or a large project like starting a new course.
The key element is that it should be something outside of your comfort zone. By progressing with the task, it can give you a feeling of control and being in charge of your own destiny.
Talking to the BBC, Cardiff neuroscientist, Dr Dean Burnett said, "Novelty is fundamentally rewarding. Learning to do new things is frequently how we acquire self-worth. Goal-motivated behaviour is one of the most fundamental ways that we operate."
