The Materials Integrity Technology Transfer (MITT) programme has been delivering expert support to SMEs across the Tees Valley region, including Titan Trailers Industries Limited who manufacture aluminium HGV waste trailers.
The manufacture of trailers is an energy intensive process and Titan Trailers wanted to investigate new technical solutions to reduce their energy consumption, thereby reducing their carbon footprint. Titan Trailers worked with TWI through the MITT programme to critically appraise their manufacturing processes and the process flow through the factory.
TWI were able to use their engineering experience to assess current technical advances relative to Titan Trailers’ manufacturing requirements and perform a cost benefit analysis to demonstrate the value of modifying the production flow.
TWI Support
TWI experts worked with Titan Trailers to identify where the greatest energy savings could be made relative to investment.
One particular area was identified that had the potential to provide significant costs savings through a reduction in energy and consumables. Further investigation revealed that cost savings in excess of £500k per annum could be expected with increased product output.
Titan Trailers are very excited about the opportunity identified and are looking forward to working with TWI in the future to implement the changes and make these improvements a reality.
Titan Trailers are currently completing the groundwork to facilitate introducing the new product flow and the first changes are expected to come on line in September of this year. It is expected that the changes will be fully implemented before the end of Q2 2024.
TWI will continue supporting Titan Trailers with these changes and are looking forward to seeing the benefits that these improvements will bring.
When the new product flow is complete, Titan Trailers and TWI will release further information about these exciting developments.
The Materials Integrity Technology Transfer (MITT) programme is a component of the Tees Valley Centre for Materials Integrity Programme, which is part-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014-2020) and Tees Valley Combined Authority.
