Successful Webinar on PAUT Compound S-Scan Held on July 2

On 2 July 2024, TWI hosted an insightful and successful webinar titled "Significant Features of PAUT Compound S-scan in Terms of Improved Scan-Plan Strategy and Sizing Capabilities", drawing participants from various regions, including India, Bangkok, and Indonesia. The event, held from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM India Time (3:30 PM to 5:00 PM Bangkok and Indonesia Time), showcased the latest advancements in Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) and its applications in enhancing inspection processes. 

The webinar covered a comprehensive range of topics, including:

  • PAUT Principles: An introduction to phase interaction, delay laws, and the mechanisms of focusing and steering in PAUT.
  • Calibration Process: Detailed explanations of the basic scan types, including Linear, Sectorial, and Compound S-scan.
  • Scan Plan Strategy: Strategies for using Compound S-scan to achieve better volume coverage and more accurate inspections.
  • Data Comparison: A comparison between S-Scan and Compound S-Scan, highlighting the enhanced evaluation process.
  • Advantages of Compound S-Scan: The webinar concluded with a discussion on the benefits of Compound S-scan in inspection processes.

Participants had the opportunity to deepen their understanding of PAUT and discover how Compound S-scan can significantly improve inspection accuracy and efficiency.

The webinar featured two distinguished speakers:

  • Mr. Satanphop Amsupan: With over 15 years of experience in life management, risk assessment, and plant asset integrity issues for the power generation, oil and gas, and process sectors, Mr. Amsupan currently serves as Country Manager in Thailand. He provides consultancy services throughout Southeast Asia, leveraging his extensive expertise to address complex asset integrity challenges.
  • Mr. Sathish Murugan: Holding an M.Tech Degree in NDT from the National Institute of Technology, Mr. Murugan possesses extensive knowledge in advanced NDE technologies. His expertise spans Phased Array Ultrasonic, Automated Ultrasonic Testing Pipeline, Time of Flight Diffraction, Eddy Current Testing, and Tube Inspection Techniques. He has vast experience in applying various NDT techniques for inspection in refineries, power plants, chemical, and fertilizer industries, both offshore and onshore

The webinar was a significant success, providing valuable insights and practical knowledge to professionals in the field. The engaging presentations and detailed discussions reinforced the importance of advanced NDT techniques like PAUT in ensuring the safety and reliability of critical infrastructure.
