Joint Technical Group Webinar on Polymers and NDT

Webinars 06 June 2024

Joint Polymers and Composites/NDT and Condition Monitoring Technical Groups Webinar:
Is the future of polymers and composites built on a defective foundation or will NDT save the day?

Who should attend?

Designers, materials engineers, fabrication supervisors, quality control personnel, NDT engineers, anyone curious about composites and adhesives.

What will you learn?

Most manufacturing standards and requirements for freedom from flaws are based on the needs of the metals fabrication sector. These focus on joints, as the materials themselves are usually controlled/inspected at source, and the types of flaw are specific to welding.

Where polymers, composites or a combination of metals and polymeric materials are used, a different approach is needed, both for the areas to be controlled/inspected and the types of flaws sought. This applies at the composite manufacturing stage, joining, and for in-service inspections.

This event will highlight the types of flaws encountered in composite manufacture, including joining, and present some strategies for detecting/controlling these.

Experts from industry will be presenting on a range of topics:

  • Ewen Kellar, Consultant, TWI Ltd, The Source of Detects in Adhesively Bonded Joints
  • Sadik Omairey, Senior Research Fellow, Brunel Composites Centre, Brunel University London, Stochastic Simulation of Defects in Polymeric Materials
  • Nathan Hartley, Section Manager, NRT and Calum Hoyle, Team Manager, NRT, TWI Ltd, Emerging THz Inspection Techniques Advanced Materials
  • Pete Sheppard, Senior Naval Architect, RNLI, Putting it Into Practice - Composite Manufacturing and Inspection in Industry
