We are pleased to announce that Carol Johnston is now a Technology Fellow in the Fatigue Integrity Management section at TWI. Her focus of expertise as one of our world-renowned Technology Fellows is large scale testing.
She defines ‘large scale tests’ as those that generate data that provides an understanding of the performance of components, as opposed to tests on specimens that have been extracted from a component and machined to dimensions prescribed in a test standard. Recent test programmes have improved understanding of the performance of mechanically lined pipes. Next, Carol will be developing the understanding of the fatigue performance welds in the large thicknesses used in offshore wind structures.
Carol joined TWI in 2009, carrying out research and running a range of projects related to the fatigue performance and structural integrity of welded joints. Her main areas of work are on validation fatigue testing of welds and providing consultancy on fatigue design of welded joints. She is in charge of our resonance fatigue testing offering, and lately, she has been working to enable fatigue design recommendations to be updated and unified.
During her time at TWI, Carol has managed over 150 projects and has contributed over 30 publications on the topic of fatigue testing of welds.
We would like to congratulate Carol on her appointment to Technology Fellow.
